The Negroni Sour is a more complex take on the original cocktail. The addition of orange and lemon juice really makes this cocktail sing, while the egg white gives it a smooth and creamy texture. I’m using Sipsmith Gin, Campari (of course) and Amaro instead of Sweet Vermouth, because, well, I’m just not a fan of vermouth, but I love me a nice Amaro.
If this is your first attempt at adding egg whites to a cocktail, don’t be intimidated. It’s really pretty easy to get a nice froth, just follow the directions below!
INGREDIENTS
-
1.5 oz. Sipsmith Gin
-
.75 oz. Campari
-
1 oz. Averna Amaro
-
.75 oz. Lemon juice
-
.75 oz. Orange juice
-
.25 oz. Simple syrup
-
Egg whites from 1 egg
- Dehydrated blood orange wheel
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
Add the egg whites and lemon juice to shaker. Shake for 30 seconds. Seriously, count it down, you’ll thank me.
STEP 2
Add the gin, amaro, orange juice, and simple syrup to the shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until very cold.
STEP 3
Strain into a coupe to serve straight up, or into a cocktail glass over ice—dealer’s choice. Garnish with dehydrated orange wheel.
Tip: We’re just past blood orange season, but I can’t wait to try this next year and substitute regular orange juice for the blood orange. If you try it, let me know what you think!
