The hubs and I finally made it to San Francisco for the Memorial Day weekend. Although three days isn’t nearly enough time to experience all the city has to offer, we got some recommendations from friends and packed in as much as we could. Here are the highlights of our weekend filled with art and cocktails.

Food and Drinks:

  • Tosca Cafe: sit at the bar, hangout with Aaron the bar tender while you enjoy a cocktail, soak up the history leaching from the walls, barstools and 1919 expresso machine and while keeping a watchful eye for celebrities.
  • Tonga Room: the kitschy tiki room located in the Fairmont hotel which includes a floating band and hourly “rain storms”
  • House of Nanking: the place to visit in Chinatown. Be prepared to wait in line and have your order ready.
  • Bix Restaurant: described as a civilized speakeasy, a supper club and an elegant saloon with nightly live jazz

Art and Culture:

Be a tourist:

  • Pier 39 Sea Lions
  • Ferry Building: here you’ll find vendors selling all kinds of eats—cheese, cookies and milk, coffee, french pastries, tacos, dumplings, hotdogs, as well as, beautiful artisan wares.

There’s so many gems in this great city! I can’t wait to visit again and discover more, so please leave a comment and tell me your favorites to add to the list.
