The Toronto cocktail has very few ingredients: Rye, Fernet, Simple Syrup—and depending on who you ask, Angostura bitters. There’s not a bunch of ingredients to hide behind, so the quality and proportions count. I have a good friend who judges bars by how they execute the Toronto—he’s a smart man with impeccable taste!
INGREDIENTS
-
1 oz. bourbon
-
.5 oz Fernet
-
.5 oz simple syrup
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Lemon essence and twist, for optional garnish
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
Add all ingredients together with ice. Stir for about 20 seconds, until cold and combined.
STEP 2
Strain into a coupe glass. Squeeze lemon peel over drink to release oils, then twist and garnish drink.
