The Navy Grog is a classic tiki cocktail created by Trader Vic’s in the 1940’s, and adapted by Smuggler’s Cove. The ice cone adds fun, tiki flair and it’s easy to make at home!

Navy Grog Tiki Cocktail

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 oz Plantation Xaymaca or Smith & Cross (overproof) rum
  • 1 oz Plantation 3 Star or Appleton Estates Signature Blend
  • 1 oz Caña Brava 7 Year or Bacardi 8 or Cruzan Single Barrel
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1/4 oz Demerara syrup (2:1 ratio or use 1/2 oz 1:1 ratio)
  • 1/4 oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
  • Ice cone garnish

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1
Make the ice cone:

Add a couple of spoonfuls of shaved ice to a footed pilsner glass. Pack ice firmly. Repeat until the glass is 3/4 full. Stick a chop stick through the middle of ice. Gently remove ice cone from glass and make sure chop stick is straight down the middle and all the way through the ice. Freeze overnight on a sheet pan lined with wax paper.

STEP 2
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake 20 seconds then pour into a double rocks glass. You can also flash blend all ingredients with ice—as the called for in Smuggler’s Cove.

STEP 3
Add ice cone to glass, then add straw to cone. Enjoy.
