8 months in Seattle! What’s a better way to celebrate than a Derby Party?

Bobby and I were invited to a Kentucky Derby Party at our friends Andy and Christine’s place. I was so excited because this was my first Derby Party and I couldn’t stop talking about it all week.

It’s all about the hat.

I was told by my co-worker, Jancy, who graciously offered up one of her many hats for me to wear to the party.

I felt so fancy walking down the street with a beautiful hat box.

My cousin, Erin, and her girlfriend, Mary, happened to be in town, so we brought them along to the party. Erin wore a fabulous fascinator (another option provided by my wonderful co-worker).

Erin and Mary (and photobomb by me).

We drank Mint Juleps, placed our bets and gathered around the TV. 45 seconds later my horse, California Chrome, won! This being my first Derby, I had no idea all the dress up and activities were for only 45 seconds of miniature men mounted atop lightening fast steeds. Who knew it wasn’t like Nascar? Clearly, everyone except for me, but I didn’t care because my fancy hat brought me luck and I won $5!

Andy, being very serious about the betting process!

Bobby didn’t have a hat, but he had a fabulous bow tie!
